Climate change represents an urgent challenge for humanity. Quantifying uncertainty in long‐term climate prediction and estimating the potential strength of extreme meteorological events in the face of global warming are very difficult research questions. In response to this challenge, Imperial and the University of Reading have joined forces to create the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in the Mathematics of Planet Earth.
A key objective is to develop the underpinning technology for Laminar Flow Control (LFC), the technology of drag reduction on aircraft. A unique team of researchers covers all theoretical, computational, and experimental aspects of the problem together with the necessary expertise to make sure the work can be deployed by industry.
The EPSRC Centre for Mathematics of Precision Healthcare will provide a venue for new mathematics, new data analysis pipelines, and a genuinely interdisciplinary approach by bringing together Imperial’s mathematicians, engineers and computer scientists with medical scientists and clinicians to address such issues across different areas in healthcare, from patient journeys to population-level analyses.
