Enterprise DTP Studentships are only available for studies which have not yet commenced. Please ensure you read these eligibility criteria before making an application.
Applicants should hold as a minimum, or expect to receive, a first class or a good upper second class Honours degree (or equivalent) in an area relevant to their proposed field of research.
Where an applicant does not meet this requirement (e.g. they hold a lower second class undergraduate degree), they are eligible to apply if they hold, or expect to receive a master's degree with minimum merit pass or equivalent (in an area relevant to their proposed PhD) before starting their studentship.
Studentships awarded based on predicted grades will be conditional upon final results.
To be eligible for a full Enterprise DTP Studentship (stipend and university fees), candidates must be able to demonstrate a settled status in the United Kingdom. Detailed guidance regarding residence eligibility is available in the residence requirements section of the MRC website.
To be eligible for a full award, a student must have:
- settled status in the UK, meaning they have no restrictions on how long they can stay.
- been ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK for three years prior to the start of the studentship. This means they must have been normally residing in the UK (apart from temporary or occasional absences).
- not been residing in the UK wholly or mainly for the purpose of full-time education (this does not apply to UK or EU nationals).
EU fees-only studentships
To be eligible for a fees-only award, students from EU countries other than the UK are generally eligible for a fees-only award. To be eligible for a fees-only award, a student must be ordinarily resident in a member state of the EU, in the same way as UK students must be ordinarily resident in the UK.
This covers the cost of the university fees, conference fund and Research Training Supplement Grant, but does not include the monthly stipend. If you are applying for a fees-only studentship, please choose this option on the application form, when prompted.
International (non-UK/EU) students
The Medical Research Council restricts the use of funding to support international candidates and therefore we will not be accepting applications from international students for this call.
Other funding sources
If you are not eligible for an Enterprise DTP Studentship, you may find an alternative funding opportunity using our Scholarships Search Tool. Each opportunity has different eligibility criteria so please check carefully before applying.
