Learning and development
As part of training for the role, Finance Trainees will become familiar with the College’s accounting system (Imperial College Information System, ICIS) through various training courses. The use of ICIS will be a core element of any placement undertaken as part of the scheme. Support is available within the department to ensure Finance Trainees become a competent user of the system.
Finance Trainees will be expected to complete their study for either the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification during their three years on the scheme and the College will meet the full cost of relevant training courses, exam fees, etc. (assuming first time passes).
Finance Trainees are encouraged to supplement their day-to-day experiences from the wide range of courses available in the College’s Learning and Development Centre. As well as providing general information about the College, these courses are great opportunities that help equip trainees for more senior roles in the future.
Examples of training courses available in the College's Learning and Development Centre include:
Communicating for Results
Managing Difficult Situations
Skills for Meetings
Recruitment and Selection
Trainees are also invited to become members of the Association of University Administrators (AUA) and are welcome to take part in courses, and attend the AUA Annual Conference.
