Library fines for overdue items
We charge fines for:
- Overdue items recalled by another user - 50p per day (after 1 day’s grace), maximum £10.00 per item
- Overdue items from the 24 hour collection - 50p per hour (after 15 minutes’ grace), maximum £10.00 per item
- The item is over six weeks overdue, in which case it will be considered lost and you will be charged the replacement cost of the item
If you have outstanding fines of more than £10.00 your library record will be blocked and you will not be able to borrow or renew until the items are returned and the outstanding payment made.
Library fine rates are reviewed annually at the end of the academic year. Any changes to fine rates are agreed by the Library Leadership Team.
For items that have not been recalled and that are not from the 24 hour collection, you will receive overdue email reminders, as follows:
One week overdue
You will receive an email reminder and must return the overdue item(s) to any Imperial College library as soon as possible, or contact us.
Three weeks overdue
You will receive a second email reminder. Your library account will be barred. This means that you will not be permitted any further loans, renewals or reservations and you will not be able to enter any of our libraries until the matter is resolved.
Six weeks overdue
You will receive a third email reminder. If you still do not contact us or return the item(s), they will be considered lost, and the replacement cost will be added to your library account. You will receive an email containing information about the replacement cost.
How to pay your fine / item replacement cost
