• Panopto for Windows: Windows 7 and above (32 and 64 bit)

To view and edit Panopto recordings, you must install:

To look at Panopto statistics and produce statistical reports from the server, you will need Flash Player installed.

Pre-installation checklist

Before installing the Panopto Personal Recorder, check that you have completed the following tasks:

  • requested and been granted access to Panopto. Request access to Panopto (staff only);
  • obtained administrator privileges for the machine onto which you wish to download the recorder. If you do not have administrator privileges, contact the ICT Service Desk;
  • installed the driver for your webcam first and tested it, if you wish to use one/use an external one.

Install and set up the Panopto Personal Recorder


  1. Go to
  2. Select from the Login using the drop down menu and enter your College username and password.
  3. Click the Download Panopto button in the top right hand corner of the screen. 
  4. Select the relevant download button for the machine (Windows or Mac OS) under the Panopto Recorder heading (not the Remote Recorder heading).
  5. Locate the downloaded Recorder on your desktop. It will be called PanoptoRecorder.exe (Windows) or (Mac).
  6. Click on the PanoptoRecorder.exe (Windows) or (Mac) file to launch it.
  7. Select Run and then Next.
  8. Navigate to a destination folder of your choice by clicking Change and once you have chosen a location for the folder, click Next.
  9. Click Install to begin the installation.

Set up

Once the Panopto Recorder is installed you will be able to open the software. 

To set up the Recorder, follow these steps:

  1. Double click on the Panopto icon on your desktop to launch the software.
  2. Check that it says in the Server Address field.
  3. Click on the Log in with button.
  4. Enter your College username and password and click Login. You do not need to type\ before your username.
  5. Contact the ICT Service Desk to request that automated email notifications when your recordings have finished are set up.

You are now ready to set up your hardware: Required audio visual equipment.
